S200 Tools: User Interface

There are two ways to use the S200 Tools program with an S200 Series Drive(s): Online or Offline.

Control Mode

Online Mode

In Online Mode, you are working directly with a drive that is connected to your host PC. The information that is displayed on screen is from the actual drive.

NOTE for SynqNet: The S200 Tools software can ONLY communicate with one S200 drive at a time over the SynqNet interface. Only one SynqNet node will be displayed at a time.

Offline Mode

In Offline Mode, you are working with a drive's configuration file. A PC-Drive connection is not required. The information that is displayed on screen is from a previously stored .S2C configuration file.

To open an existing file in Offline mode, click the Open icon (File > Open) and select the appropriate .S2C configuration file.

The Drive Setup menu allows you to view and edit drive related information. The same options are available as an Online S200 drive. See Drive Setup for descriptions of the various fields.

At the bottom of the screen there is a Model Selection section that allows you to select a specific S200 Drive Model and Type.

Save Options

There are three types of Save options. It is important to know how to use each type.

  • Download NV - This button will save the parameter settings displayed in S200 Tools to the selected drive. These parameters are saved to the drive's permanent memory and are recalled during a power-up cycle.

  • Download RAM - This button will save the parameter settings displayed in S200 Tools to the selected drive/node. However, unlike Download RAM, these parameters are only saved to the drive's temporary RAM and will not be recalled at a power-up cycle. It is recommended that you use the Download Drive button when testing settings. Once you are satisfied with the settings, click the Download RAM button to permanently save the settings.

  • Save/Save As - You can also save the settings of a drive as a configuration file (*.S2C). Remember, saving a configuration file does NOT save the settings to the drive. Configuration files can be helpful for saving multiple drive setups. You can easily downloaded a setting to a drive by opening the configuration file in the Offline mode and clicking the Download RAM/Drive buttons once the proper drive is selected in the Online mode. It is recommended that you save a configuration file for each setup.
