Servo Tuning Guidelines

In order to properly tune a servo, you must follow several guidelines and steps, which are outlined in more detail below. There are basically three major steps in tuning a servo.

  1. Sensor Verification - Your sensors need to be working correctly in order to use the servo motor.

  2. Servo Performance Criteria - If you don't have tuning criteria, you will not know when you have achieved acceptable performance.

  3. Tune the Servo Motor - The type of servo, performance requirements, and other affecting factors will determine whether you use a PID or PIV algorithm to tune the servo.

Below is an overview diagram of the major steps that will be used to tune the servo. Click on any of the boxes in the diagram to jump to a section that describes it in more detail.
