Introduction to eXMP Temperature Monitoring

    IMPORTANT WARNING!
The maximum environmental operating conditions for the eXMP is 50 degrees C.

The maximum junction temperature of the eXMP processor is 90 degrees C.

An eXMP shutdown will occur when the junction temperature reaches 135 degrees C.

The eXMP protects itself from catastrophic overheating by use of an internal thermal sensor. This sensor is set well above the normal operating temperature to ensure that there are no false trips. The processor will stop all execution when the junction temperature exceeds approximately 135 degrees C. Precautions should be taken to monitor the eXMP's junction temperature so that a controlled shutdown can be made before an emergency shutdown occurs.

In the possible case of fan failure, the temperature of the eXMP could rise to a point where the processor will generate an unexpected emergency shutdown. The fan used in the eXMP has an MTBF of 30,000 hrs, depending on operating conditions.

To protect eXMP users from an unexpected shutdown, we have added a Temperature Monitoring Feature into the MPI. Please see Using the MPI to Check the Temperature for more information.
