Motion Engineering's MPI software releases include FPGA images and DSP firmware for SynqNet controllers. The FPGA image contains the code to send/receive network data. The DSP firmware contains code and data to operate the controller's processor. The controller's FPGA image is automatically downloaded when the controller firmware is downloaded. The MPI automatically reads the controller type and selects the appropriate FPGA image type (9601, 9201, etc.). The MPI selects the FPGA version based on the software release version. Controller firmware and FPGA can be downloaded with the flash.exe utility or Motion Console.

It is possible to manually download a specific FPGA file (version) with the flash.exe utility or Motion Console. In some special cases, using a different FPGA file may be necessary. Using different FPGA images should only be downloaded when directed by an MEI applications engineer.
